Meet Pastor Joe & Shawna Mateer

Married for 14 years, Pastor Joe and Shawna Mateer have always had a heart for people to know the life-changing love of Jesus. When God called them to plant New City Church in Naples, FL, they knew He was inviting them into something bigger than just starting a church—He was calling them to be part of His plan to bring new life to this city.

They have packed up their 4 children, Grace, Jack, Ella, and Charlette, to go on this new adventure with the people of Naples.

A few years ago someone stood in front of us and asked us to do more than just attend. They invited us to be part of what God was doing. That moment changed our lives forever.

Because of that one invitation, many of our friends and family came to know Jesus. Now they’re all involved in church. And that’s why our heart burns for Naples.

What if our city had a church that truly cared for people far from God? A church that reached the lost, walked with them, and helped them find their place?

We’re launching New City Church in Naples, FL so people can experience new life, real joy, and lasting hope in God. We know life can be challenging and lonely, which is why we felt called to create a community where people can truly belong.

By 2060, our county is projected to grow by nearly 80%, reaching over 700,000 people. That’s why we’re planting New City Church now.

We want to be a multigenerational church that reaches both families and empty nesters, but that means investing in a high-quality kids’ ministry set up—creating a safe, engaging space where the next generation can encounter Jesus. If we build it now, we’ll be ready to reach the wave of families coming next.
